2026 World Baseball Classic Early Odds Preview: Favorites, Close To Favorites & Sleepers

With 20 teams preparing to square off all across the United States hoping to dethrone Japan as World Baseball Classic champions, what better way to get the ball rolling for baseball fans around the world before the start of the 2026 MLB season than with the WBC?

So, who’s looking the hottest to potentially take the crown away from the Japanese?

USA vs The Field

I think I can honestly say that in all my years of being a die-hard baseball fan, I’ve never seen a lineup as utterly stacked on all sides of the ball as the United States’ 2026 WBC team.

Starting out with the pitching rotation, even if it was announced that reigning AL Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal will only pitch in one game before heading back to the Detroit Tigers’ preseason camp, you still have the NL Cy Young winner Paul Skenes, San Francisco Giants ace Logan Webb, Chicago Cubs star Matthew Boyd, and even Los Angeles Dodgers living legend/future first ballot hall of famer Clayton Kershaw all in the mix.

And that’s just to name a couple of flame throwers.

But hey, if that wasn’t enough, how does having Cal Raleigh, aka the hottest power-hitting catcher in the game right now behind home plate sound. And in case Cal gets a little tired, the US can always turn to Dodgers starting catcher and one of LA’s most reliable hitters Will Smith to tag in.

And if that still wasn’t enough, an infield with Bryce Harper, Bobby Witt Jr., Alex Bregman and Gunnar Henderson, an outfield with Aaron Judge and Pete Crow-Armstrong and Kyle Schwarber as a designated hitter rounds out the roster.

In all honesty, to start, it’s no wonder why the US enter the Classic as online betting odds favorites to win at -120 odds. And furthermore, talk about absolute juggernaut power on the plate.

There are so many home runs amongst all the field players in that lineup that I’m willing to bet there is no pitcher in the tournament looking at this roster and thinking “I can take them”.

Other 2026 WBC Favorites To Keep An Eye On

Besides the US, two other teams enter the tournament with true, realistic odds to try and make a run for the title, Japan, led by Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and the Dominican Republic, with Juan Soto, Fernando Tatis Jr., Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Manny Machado, Junior Caminero and Oneil Cruz leading the way.

As far as Japan goes at +320 odds to repeat as champions, it’s clear that all of the country’s hopes will mostly rely on what Ohtani, early MLB predictions favorite to win the National League MVP award, Yamamoto, last season’s World Series MVP, and newly arrived to MLB stars Munetaka Murakami and Kazuma Okamoto can do.

Thankfully for the defending champs, as proven over and over again, if there’s one player who any baseball fan is willing to trust in any scenario, Ohtani can easily be the determining factor for a potential repeat title win be it that he doubles as a pitcher and designated hitter or only focusses on hitting.

And the Dominicans?

Man oh man, looking at that roster, you can easily tell two things. One, that’s the literal definition of an offensive juggernaut unit, clearly justifying the team’s +375 odds to win.

And two? The partying in the clubhouse must be some of the best in the world.

For the Dominican Republic, while run production shouldn’t be an issue at all, their success or fault in the classic will boil down to one thing, how their rotation, led by Christopher Sanchez and bullpen can perform, especially when facing some of the tournament’s toughest squads.

2026 WBC Odds Sleepers and Darkhorses

Now, putting the favorites to the side, if you’re looking for an early tournament steal of a pick for title winner, in all honesty, only one team stands out as a perfect bet now and pray for the best pick, Venezuela.

At +1800 odds, with a rotation led by new Boston Red Sox ace Ranger Suarez, but most importantly, an infield and outfield headlined by some of the league’s biggest stars like Wilson and William Contreras, Salvador Perez, Eugenio Suarez, Gleyber Torres, Ronald Acuña Jr. and Jackson Chourio, there’s something brewing with this team that could end up offering the biggest surprise of the tournament.
