Boston Stands Tall As Favorite Before Start Of The Postseason

There were a lot of question marks surrounding the Boston Celtics when the season started considering Jayson Tatum’s absence.

Apparently though, people forgot this is the Celtics we’re talking about, a team so dangerous, that even with a lineup stacked with traffic cones and empty beer cans they would still be considered playoff contenders at the least.

Even with Tatum out for the majority of the season, having come back for the final stretch, and seeing Jrue Holiday, Kristaps Porzingis, and Al Horford, all key pieces in Boston’s rotation leave, head coach Joe Mazzula made one point glaringly clear, his system works with or without stars.

Of course, it would be unfair to talk about Boston’s season without highlighting Jaylen Brown taking over as the team’s top honcho and showing why he is deemed by basketball experts as one of the most important players in the league.

Now, with Tatum back, Brown playing at his usual scorching mode and the rest of the Celtics’ lineup doing what needs to be done and then some, it’s easy to see why, even while slated in second place of the conference, they run the odds rankings at +160, leading to a simple yet very clear statement.

If everything continues going the way it is, the road to the NBA finals will run through Boston.

Cavs, Pistons & Knicks Want To Spoil Celtics’ Plans

Here’s the funny thing about the East this season.

While the Celtics, currently second in the standings lead our NBA conference finals odds, the Detroit Pistons, who currently lead the conference and look like they’ll finish the season as the top team in the East currently sit fourth in our odds at +465.

Understanding that Cade Cunningham’s absence from the lineup due to injury over the past couple of weeks probably led to the Pistons taking a bit of a dive in the odds, that still hasn’t stopped the team from continuing to do something nobody could’ve seen coming earlier on in the season.

Detroit continues to win games, and not just scrapping by, but winning convincingly, with a mix of bullyish physicality and high-throttle offense.

Once Cade is back for the playoffs, those +465 odds could end up becoming one of the best deals in town if you ask me.

With the Cleveland Cavaliers, currently fourth in the standings but second in our odds, there’s a lot to be said about how this team managed to regroup and take off seamlessly after trading Darius Garland to the Los Angeles Clippers for James Harden.

Coming in to play second fiddle on offense to Donovan Mitchell alongside Evan Mobley, Harden has helped the Cavs continue living up to early season expectations where they were originally pinned as favorites for the title out East based on their performance from last season where they finished atop the conference.

The only real doubt up in the air is, even with Harden in the lineup, once push comes to shove, will the Cavs stand up and fight or will they fall victims to the weight of their own expectations?

Last but certainly not least, the New York Knicks at +450 odds.

After giving their loyal fans a taste of title-winning glory, winning the NBA Cup Title earlier on in the season, and doing due diligence throughout the season as potential title contenders, when teams head to Madison Square Garden to play the Knicks, they know the odds of leaving with a win are slim.

Sadly, the same can’t be said about when New York hits the road.

For a team that plays as dominantly at home to struggle so much on the road, can the Knicks finally get over the hump and go for what their fans have been longing for almost 30 years, another shot at the NBA title?

Don’t Sleep On Sixers, Hornets and Hawks

Rounding out our list of potential Eastern Conference Champion odds contenders, two teams that have taken off like nobody would have expected since the All-Star break and another which, when with the roster in full health could give the favorites a true run for their money.

First up, at +2000 odds are the Philadelphia 76ers.

It’s no secret that a healthy Joel Embiid can still be considered a game-changing talent in the league. When combined with Tyrese Maxey and a returning Paul George who has looked like his old self from time to time after returning from injury, this Sixers team has the chops to finally finish out their process narrative and make a run for the title, even if a potential trip to the finals goes through Boston, New York, Detroit or Cleveland.

Coming in right behind at +2400, my favorite team offensively speaking since the All-Star break, the Charlotte Hornets.

The way which Charlotte has managed to turn its season around, boasting a 17-8 record since the break, and a 17-5 record over its last 22 games, all while cementing its status as the league’s best offense when it comes to rating (123.8), leads me to ponder about what a potential playoff run could look like for the team.

Considering they’ve amassed wins against teams as strong as the Celtics, Knicks, Orlando Magic, and Miami Heat during their post All-Star break stretch, if the Hornets hit their mark in the playoffs, what’s there from stopping them from reaching the Eastern Conference title?

Lastly, and right behind Charlotte at +2600 odds, the other team out East who managed to stage one of the biggest turnarounds this season after the All-Star break, the Atlanta Hawks.

Winning 19 out of 24 games, including victories against the Sixers (twice), Orlando (twice), Boston and Detroit, following Trae Young’s departure via trade to the Washington Wizards, the Hawks have taken flight and haven’t looked back, slating themselves in the fifth spot of the Eastern Conference standings.

Playing some of the most consistently solid ball both on offense and defense, as long as Atlanta doesn’t choke when the fights get real, it could also offer some great betting upside for anybody willing to take the plunge and soar with the Hawks.
