NHL Weekend Betting Preview & Top Picks

Best NHL Bets For This Friday

Looking for a chill night to start your weekend? Maybe do a little college hoops and pro hockey betting to get your picks juices flowing?

Say no more then, with two games slated for tonight, it feels like a perfect scenario for NHL betting odds fans looking for a relaxing, potentially money-winning plan for tonight, so let’s talk puck action.

  • Detroit Red Wings vs Buffalo Sabres: Just because I said we were going to have a chill betting night today, it doesn’t mean it won’t have its fair share of drama and excitement.

Take the Detroit Red Wings road game against the Buffalo Sabres for example.

On the one hand you have the Red Wings, currently out of the Eastern Conference playoff picture after losing two games in a row, but with the Ottawa Senators just two points away, meaning a road win here against their Atlantic Division rivals, and divisional leader, Sabres could pay off immensely tonight for Detroit.

On the other hand, you have Buffalo, currently sitting atop their division, but starting to feel the burn from the Tampa Bay Lightning almost catching up to them at the top, especially after dropping two games themselves.

With Buffalo having a better offense, a stronger record over it’s last ten games (7-1-2) and home ice advantage, I’m not about to be the one that goes against the locals here, so take the Sabres to win straight up at -150.

  • Chicago Blackhawks vs New York Rangers: Whoever decided to make the reeling New York Rangers team a favorite in tonight’s home game against the Chicago Blackhawks should really get his/her head checked, because come on man, with the way New York has played all season long, they don’t even deserve to be favorites against themselves at a practice scrimmage.

While I’m not sold on the Blackhawks that much either, they did beat NY already once this season by 3-0 and hold a better record over their last ten games (4-3-3) than the Rangers, who’ve lost six in a row.

At +175 odds to beat the Rangers at Madison Square Garden, not only will I confidently lock down Chicago to win straight up, I’ll even add in an NHL prop bet for kicks, taking Connor Bedard scoring at least once (+160), especially considering he’s scored seven goals since the Olympic break and scored one of the three goals the Blackhawks beat the Rangers with that one prior time this season.

Top NHL Games To Be Betting On This Weekend

Following a slow Friday, the NHL is set on delivering this weekend with some top-notch games going down both on Saturday and Sunday.

So, which are my picks for the best matchups to bet on?

  • Ottawa Senators vs Tampa Bay Lightning: Depending on what happens today in Buffalo, a win for the heavily favored Tampa Bay Lightning here, the team with the best offense in the Atlantic Division, against the Ottawa Senators could really shake up the divisional standings as we head into April.

Playing at home in Tampa, take the Lightning winning confidently and even give the game’s total going over a look.

  • Anaheim Ducks vs Edmonton Oilers: This has to be by far the best game of the weekend, as the two toughest teams in the Pacific division, the Anaheim Ducks and Edmonton Oilers clash in California.

With both teams riding on four and two game win streaks and playing some very solid hockey on both sides of the ice, there’s plenty of value checking out the Oilers to collect the strong road win here, as well as taking a stab at the game’s NHL prop betting options.

  • Dallas Stars vs Pittsburgh Penguins: If there was ever a time to try and take full advantage of the Dallas Stars’ current four game losing streak, it’s on Saturday when the Pittsburgh Penguins, currently riding second in the Metropolitan Division play host to Dallas.

When looking at how both teams stack up, there’s little to no wiggle room here, making it a perfect buy high spot for anybody who likes the idea of taking the Penguins to score a win here.

Expect a tight game here, give the over in the total a look and go with Pittsburgh to make it five “Ls” in a row for the Stars.

  • Montreal Canadiens vs Carolina Hurricanes: If I’m honest, while Saturday is bringing the heat, Sunday’s slate of NHL games feels like a bit of a letdown, with only one game truly standing out above the rest as the Montreal Canadiens head to Carolina to face the Hurricanes.

Sitting with no real worries atop the Metropolitan Division with an eight-point lead over the Penguins, a game against the Canadiens could be the perfect scenario to chase a high-scoring affair and NHL goal scorer props left and right.

Standing as the perfect game to cap off the weekend with a bang, expect goals a plenty in Carolina, so target the over.
