UConn vs Michigan 2026 Men’s College Basketball Finals Preview & Picks

The road to the NCAA Men’s basketball tournament has officially narrowed down to two teams ready to duke it out for the national title.

On one side you have the Michigan Wolverines, touted by many as the best and most dominant team in the country this season, winning all of their games during the tournament by double-digit margins, all while making it look almost too easy to be true.

On the other side you have the UConn Huskies, entering their third title game in a span of four years (they won the other two), spearheaded by Dan Hurley, a coach already making a strong case to be considered the best to ever do it.

With Michigan entering as favorites for tonight’s game at Lucas Oil Stadium, let’s talk game and what both teams are bringing as we break down our NCAA basketball championship picks for tonight’s game.

One more game, that’s all we have left of a tournament that delivered and then some on the Madness scale.

With Michigan looking to cap off a season in which they’ve dominated almost every team they’ve faced, and UConn, who’s banking on its defense and championship pedigree to get the job done one more time in the biggest stage of them all, we’ve got a slew of expert picks, best bets and predictions for tonight’s NCAA Men’s National Championship Game.

The question now is, are you ready for tonight’s showdown?

Michigan’s Dominance vs UConn’s Pedigree

Looking at the college basketball odds for this game, I’m finding it a bit hard to justify how Michigan are seven-point favorites for tonight’s game.

Why?

Yes, they have the better offense and can go toe to toe with the Huskies when it comes to defending. But at the end of the day, in a finals scenario, all stats are left to the side, with bettors and experts leaning more towards experience and hunger to win above everything.

So who has the upper hand here?

Let’s look at Michigan first. It’s ranked first in defensive efficiency and fourth in offensive efficiency.

It’s won all of its tournament games by at least a 27-point difference on average with their closest call coming at the Round of 16 where they beat the Alabama Crimson Tide by 13, all while scoring at least 90 points in each of those games.

In the semifinals the Wolverines even managed to school the Arizona Wildcats, arguably the toughest opponent they could have faced before UConn in the tournament, beating them by 91-73, even if it meant losing star player Yaxel Lendeborg in the first half of the game.

But that was then, and this is now where Dan Hurley’s Huskies are waiting.

For being a two-time Natty winner over the past three years, UConn has taken to being an underdog in the latter rounds of the tournament quite well, taking out Duke and Illinois to get to the finals, all while being pinned as dogs.

On offense, UConn is not a team that can dazzle NCAAB betting fans.

Looking back at the team’s tournament run, they only managed to score over 80 points once, and that was all the way back in the first round of the tournament.

Where the Huskies have excelled in, and which could end up causing huge issues for the Wolverines it’s on defense.

While flying low on offense, the Huskies, led by Hurley’s masterful strategies have managed not only to hang tight against some of the tournament’s best teams (UCLA, Michigan State, Duke, Illinois), but have made it look like it’s a walk in the park.

In short, considering Dan Hurley’s incredible basketball mind, I would not sleep on the Huskies whatsoever tonight, especially if Michigan’s Lendeborg plays through pain.

UConn vs Michigan College Basketball Title Game Prediction

Yes, Michigan is amazing, one of the best teams I’ve watched in recent years in college hoops. So, is it a done deal to take them to win and cover the spread?

No.

Combining UConn’s championship-winning experience, the team’s poise to make it three games in a row upsetting favorites in the tournament and the effect Hurley’s schemes can have on the game, I am more inclined towards favoring the Huskies in my college basketball picks today.

This is a game for the national title we’re talking about here. That seven-point spread feels like a bit of an insult for a team of UConn’s caliber.

With that said, even while I see Michigan outlasting the Huskies based solely on physicality, I’m rocking with the Huskies ATS (+7, -115) as my pick.

And you know what, since it’s Natty day, let’s throw in a college basketball prop in as well, because why not?

With Michigan’s only real flaw on defense being its perimeter defense, UConn’s Braylon Mullins’ +110 odds to knock down over 2.5 three pointers is singing to me.

If I know something about Hurley it’s that he loves to expose opponents’ weaknesses and live off that for as much as he can.

With the Wolverines struggling to defend from beyond the arc, and Mullins coming in with a hot hand following a four-three pointer performance against Illinois in the semis, I’ll take his odds to score at least three shots from deep tonight.
