Barcelona vs Atletico Madrid
I know what you’re thinking. It’s what everybody who saw last week’s game at the Camp Nou Stadium thought.
How did Barcelona, one of the most dominant and star-student teams in the world manage to drop the ball and lose 2-0 in limping form against Atletico Madrid?
Well, it happened, and now, looking at elimination right in the eyes, it will be up to Barcelona to try and mount a three-goal comeback, unless Atletico has something to say about it of course.
Now, that sounds much easier said than done, because while Barcelona can boast about having one of Europe’s strongest attacking core, this is Atleti we’re talking about here, Diego Simeone’s Atleti, a team that doesn’t mind posting an ultra-defensive game-scheme while waiting out the storm.
While I can definitely see Barcelona hitting the ground running today and scoring first, all it will take for Atleti is finding a small gap in Barca’s defense to sneak by and do one of the things they do best, mount a counterattack that could lead to a goal.
As far as betting on this game goes, my UCL pick is with Barcelona covering the goal line (-0.5, -135).
And to spice up the action a bit more, I’ll go with both Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal and Atleti’s Julian Alvarez bringing their “A” game on offense, targeting L amine’s Over in shots on goal (1.5, -104) and Julian landing two or more shots on goal (+250) as props to bet on.
At the end of the day though, this Barcelona team has already shown us that mounting comebacks in UCL knockout stages is not necessarily their strong suit, so take them to win, but not to move on to the semis.
PSG vs Liverpool
Anfield is one of the most magical soccer stadiums in the world. I’ve always said that if you truly love the sport, you should definitely put a trip to Liverpool’s stadium in your bucket list.
But with the way Liverpool has been performing as of late, combined with PSG coming into this game well-rested, having not played this weekend in France, and with the series already 2-0 in their favor, there’s nothing Arne Slot’s team can do or put on the table that would make me want to bet on them today.
Yes, Liverpool beat Galatasaray 4-0 in the return leg of their last knockout series in this tournament. But one, Galatasaray looked like they showed up only to say they were there, not even to compete.
And two, PSG is not Galatasaray, nor it ever will be.
I don’t like Liverpool this season, it’s as simple as that. I can’t trust them to be a part of my UCL betting ticket, so with that said, take PSG to cover (PK, +105) and winger Desire Doue to land at least two shots on goal (+300) as PSG cruise by to the semifinals.
Real Madrid vs Bayern Munich
Moving on to Wednesday’s game, while Sporting Lisbon will be visiting London to play Arsenal, it’s a given that all eyes will be on Real Madrid and Bayern Munich’s game in Germany.
We’re talking about the tournament’s winningest team, Real Madrid, trying to revert last week’s 2-1 defeat at Santiago Bernabeu Stadium against the immovable juggernaut that is Bayern Munich.
If Madrid was playing any other team I would automatically sway to believe on the team’s championship pedigree as a potential series-changing factor here. But since they’re playing Bayern, another blue-blood squad in UCL history, go ahead and kiss that pedigree goodbye.
Taking both teams to score here feels like a no-brainer, even if the -265 odds don’t feel like much of a deal. Now though, if you want a couple of picks with slightly better pricing, take Bayern to win and cover (-1, -118) and Harry Kane, the German’s absolute best scorer to net at least one goal (-143) tomorrow.
Sporting Lisbon vs Arsenal
Props to Sporting for holding Arsenal under siege for almost the entirety of last week’s game, which they ended up losing by 1-0 thanks to a Kai Havertz 90+ minute goal.
But that was last week, the past, and now, as Sporting head to London for the second leg of the series, I don’t see the Portuguese being able to contain Arsenal back once more.
Even if Arsenal is coming into this game following a three-match domestic losing streak, both in the EFL Cup Final against Manchester City, the FA Cup quarterfinals against Southampton, and the EPL against Bournemouth this past weekend, that doesn’t mean they’ll be easy prey here.
Arsenal want the UCL trophy badly, just as much as they want to finish the season as EPL champions.
Having dominated opponents left and right at home all-season long in the UCL, I’ll confidently take the “Gunners” to win, cover (-1, -128) and Viktor Gyokeres, the team’s best striker this season to land over 1.5 shots on goal at (+181) as well.
